Freida Pinto has reportedly made it clear that she does not want to be typecast in only Indian roles.

The Trishna star's next film Desert Dancer sees her playing an Iranian belly dancer.

A source told The Times of India: "There is a tendency in Hollywood to stereotype actors based on their nationalities.

"Even actresses like Michelle Rodriguez and Eva Mendes have mainly played Hispanic roles. Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara are typecast as token buxom Latin women.

"Freida was clear from the beginning that she didn't want to fall into this trap and asked her management to steer away from any material that would limit her ability to play different roles."

The 27-year-old actress has said that she is proud of her Indian origins and will never forget her roots.

Set in Iran, Desert Dancer tells the true story of Afshin Ghaffarian, who risked his life to fight for his dream to become a dancer in a country where dance is illegal.

Pinto shot to international fame following her role in the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire.
