A baker could face the courts after he turned away a lesbian couple seeking a wedding cake.

Aaron Klein from Gresham, Oregon, who owns the Sweet Cakes Bakery with his wife Melissa, defended his decision believing he is protected by the constitutional right to practice his religion.

One of the women, however, filed a complaint on January 28, claiming that Klein also called them "abominations unto the Lord".

Klein denied using those words, but stated to KSNW: "I believe that marriage is a religious institution ordained by God.

"A man should leave his mother and father and cling to his wife. That, to me, is the basis of marriage.

"I'd rather have my kids see their dad stand up for what he believes in then to see him bow down because one person complained."

Klein, who also stressed that he is not anti-gay, added to KATU that he would rather shut down his bakery than "be forced to do something that violates [his] conscience".
