Games out this week: 'Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock', 'Ghost Recon'

May's biggest release week offers a little something for all tastes, including a tactical shooter, an arcade racer, and a role-playing game with some clever online hooks. There's also the long-awaited release of Doctor Who's PS3 debut.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier

Release date: May 25 (Europe), May 22 (North America)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3

This long-awaited squad-based shooter allows up to four players to work together infiltrating enemy locations using drones, camouflage suits and homing bullets. It also offers competitive multiplayer and a gun-creation mode powered by Kinect.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock

Release date: May 23 (worldwide)
Platforms: PS3 (this week), Vita (June 13)

The first of three planned releases by BBC Worldwide, this puzzle-platformer has players jump between the Doctor and River Song to solve puzzles and progress past classic enemies including the Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians and The Silence. The PlayStation exclusive will be available on Vita next month and PC in the near future.


DiRT Showdown

Release date: May 25 (Europe), May 29 (North America)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3

DiRT Showdown is billed as a "new experience" for the series, focusing on competitive racing elements with an emphasis on boosts, tricks and crashes. Multiplayer will be a large focus in the game, with options including local split-screen play, eight-player online and YouTube integration.

Dragon's Dogma

Release date: May 25 (Europe), May 22 (North America)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3

Dragon's Dogma is an open-world role-playing game created by people who have worked on Capcom's biggest titles, including Resident Evil. While traditional on the surface, it offers exciting battles with climbable monsters, challenging combat and the ability to command and share party members online.

Mario Tennis Open

Release date: May 25 (Europe), May 20 (North America)
Platforms: 3DS

The 3DS edition of the fan-favorite Mario sports franchise makes good use of the system's features, from online play to gyroscopic controls, and includes a number of novel mini-games, including one based on the original Super Mario Bros.
