Jude Law: 'Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects is full of surprises'

By

Jude Law has discussed his role in Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects.

Law, who previously starred in Soderbergh's Contagion, plays a psychiatrist who prescribes a new drug to depressed patient Emily (Rooney Mara), with disturbing consequences.

"Halfway through, there was this incredible twist," Law told Digital Spy, explaining what about the script had appealed to him. "It went in a completely different direction that you couldn't see coming, and I liked that your moral siding with characters shifted and changed, you didn't always know who you trusted."

Discussing his research into the psychiatric profession, Law said that he had felt a duty to Soderbergh and screenwriter Scott Z Burns to be authentic, and said that he had left with "a great sense of respect" for psychiatry.

"When [Soderbergh and Burns] create a world within a system or an institution, the attention to detail is second to none, and I felt a responsibility to understand and investigate that world to a degree."

Side Effects is released in this UK this Friday (March 8). Watch a trailer below:
