A man has been threatened with prosecution for reckless road behavior after skateboarding on the road at speeds approaching 70kph (43mph).
Decio Lourenco in Cape Town, South Africa was successful in his aim to set off a 60kph (37mph) speed camera on his skateboard. However, authorities want the 24-year-old punished for his stunt, reports the Daily Telegraph.
A safety and security spokesman for the city said: "All that was needed was for one of those motorists to panic and swerve into the oncoming traffic and you have a large number of deaths, as we have already had on that road.
"If we don't take action against him, every other aspirant skateboarder will try it and one of them will come to a sticky end."
Lourenco countered: "I accept that it's dangerous but so is stepping out of my front door.
"I skate down that road all the time and was skating well within my limitations."
The skateboarder added that he wore a helmet and gloves and deliberately tried the stunt when traffic was quiet.
