Nvidia unveils 'world's fastest consumer graphics card'

By
Nvidia has today launched the GeForce GTX 690, claimed to be the "world's fastest consumer graphics card".

Announced at the Nvidia Game Festival in Shanghai, the dual GPU graphics card combines speedy gaming performance with a "bold industrial design".

Powered by dual Kepler (28-nanomete) architecture-based GeForce GPUs, the GTX 690 is engineered to deliver the optimum PC gaming experience.

Aimed at the "discriminating gamer", the GTX 690 uses a total of 3,072 NVIDIA CUDA cores, and runs ultra-high-resolution, multimonitor NVIDIA Surround configurations.

Nvidia said that the card delivers double the frame rates of its closest single GPU product, the GTX 680, and the product is also more power efficient and quieter.

The exterior frame has been made from trivalent chromium-plated aluminum, providing strength and durability, while the design also offers more efficient cooling and airflow.

"The GTX 690 is truly a work of art - gorgeous on the outside with amazing performance on the inside," said Brian Kelleher, senior vice president of GPU engineering at Nvidia.

"Gamers will love playing on multiple screens at high resolutions with all the eye candy turned on. And they'll relish showing their friends how beautiful the cards look inside their systems."

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 GPU will be available in limited quantities starting May 3, before becoming more widely available from May 7 via Nvidia's add-in card partners, including ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA and Gainward.
