Cuba Gooding Jr has signed on for a new Fox legal drama called Guilty.

The Oscar winner will play the lead in the drama, which is about a morally ambiguous attorney who is stripped of his license after being framed, Deadline reports.

Gooding Jr's character will use irregular methods to solve cases and to clear his name.

The pilot has been written and will be directed by Marc Guggeinheim, who is also executive producing with Greg Berlanti, McG, and Peter Johnson.

This will be 44-year-old Gooding Jr's first time as a lead and a regular on a television show.

In a recent interview with Graham Norton to promote movie Red Tails, the Jerry McGuire star spoke about an embarrassing on-set moment when his father asked co-star Tom Cruise if he was gay.

Red Tails, also starring Terrence Howard, was released earlier this year as one of the first action films with an all-black cast.
