Edie Falco: 'Nurse Jackie drug use isn't funny'

By
Edie Falco has expressed her belief that the frequent drug use in Nurse Jackie shouldn't be considered funny.

The four-time Emmy winner disclosed to CNN that she has been approached by fans who both laugh at and emulate her character's prescription pill addiction.

"I [don't] know how to respond [to them]," she admitted. "I don't want anyone to think that the overall idea that she's a drug addict is funny. It's important to me that when all is said and done, that comes across."

Falco also opened up about her personal life, revealing that she is less of a workaholic these days.

"I'm no longer where I was ten years ago where I was like, 'I'll take anything'. I have a life outside of work now - my kids, in particular - so I don't want to take jobs just for the heck of it. It's got to be really good," she said.

Nurse Jackie was renewed for a fifth season in May.
