The untitled Fox project - a collaboration between Abrams and former Fringe showrunner Joel Wyman - is set in a future world where human cops are teamed with android partners.

Crook's character Rudy Lom is the architect behind the LAPD's robotics squad, while The Unit actor Michael Irby will also star as top LAPD cop Richard Paul.

FlashForward actor Michael Ealy was previously cast in the lead role of Dorian, an incredibly life-like robot who partners with a human detective.

The pilot's co-creator Wyman previously told Digital Spy that the show - which previously bore the working title Inhuman - explores themes of "humanity vs technology".

"I'm sort of obsessed with the idea of... humanity vs technology and what's happening to us," he revealed. "These types of things concern me and they also concern JJ.

"If people are fans of science fiction and fans of drama, you'll really dig this show."
