Ashton Kutcher has reportedly been confirmed to replace Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the No Strings Attached actor is expected to ink a deal in the upcoming days to cement his place in the show's cast.

He is said to have been hand picked by showrunner Chuck Lorre, who has written a storyline specifically with Kutcher in mind which will introduce his character "in a way that satisfies the network and the studio".

"It's really funny," a source said. "People are going to love it. Chuck is really happy."

Kutcher has not yet commented on the reports but used his official Twitter account to ask: "What's the square root of 6.25?"

CNN chatshow host Piers Morgan also used the social networking site to quip that the actor should "come on my show to give us the answer".

Hugh Grant was previously said to be close to signing for the role but pulled out of negotiations because of creative differences.

Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven had also been linked to the program.

Sheen was dropped from the CBS sitcom earlier this year after making derogatory comments about series creator Lorre.
