Deschanel told TV Line that an all-music installment of New Girl might not work as well as it did for Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Community.
"I'm not sure," the actress admitted. "The comedy is totally different on Community. They can get away with making things a bit more surreal."
Deschanel went on to clarify that she's not totally opposed to the idea, but would simply want to ensure that the music fit the fictional "world" of New Girl.
"I think it would be really fun, and I'd love to do something like that. They'd just have to find a way to put it into the reality of [our] world," she said.
Deschanel recently joked about the attention her bangs have received since New Girl's premiere last fall, saying: "I've grown [my bangs] out before, but I feel more comfortable with them.
"I sweep them sometimes for a little change of pace. They have their own personality!"
New Girl returns for a second season in the fall on Fox.
