Joseph Morgan's villainous character was killed off in the latest episode of the CW series, but Trevino - who plays Tyler - predicted that there is plenty of potential for Klaus to return.
"Joseph Morgan is a great actor. I don't see how we could get rid of him that easy," he told TVLine. "Sooner or later, we would probably see Klaus again... [however] I don't think [he'll return] any time soon."
Despite Klaus's defeat, Trevino revealed that Tyler and Caroline (Candice Accola) will still be in danger in the season three finale as Alaric (Matthew Davis) wages war on those with "any kind of supernatural element".
He said: "Now that Klaus is gone, it's about a different kind of survival. It'll be a life-changing decision.
"Do they leave town and wait until things cool off and settle somewhere else? Do they never come back? Or do they stay and fight things off with their friends?"
Trevino also spoke about Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) motivation for returning to Mystic Falls in the finale, teasing: "I feel like you can never tell. Is he back to help out? Or is he back to stir things up a bit?"
The Vampire Diaries season three concludes tonight (May 10) at 8/7c on The CW. In the UK, the show airs on ITV2.
