'Biggest Loser' Alison Sweeney 'so sad' about exits

The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney has admitted that she is "so sad" that Mark Cornelison and Buddy Shuh chose to leave the show.

Cornelison and Shuh were shown quitting the NBC competition in Tuesday's episode after discovering that eliminated contestants were going to be invited to return.

Sweeney has now revealed in her blog for People that the mutiny was "intense".

She revealed that she "asked each of them to really consider" their decision and explained that she and the rest of the production team were "focused on the contestants".

"We wanted to make sure they had all the facts laid out to make the best decisions possible," she said. "No doubt, it's an incredibly difficult situation to be in - and as contestants who make it this far in the competition always say, it's incredibly emotionally and physically exhausting.

"And when you've been so focused on one thing so intently, sometimes it's hard to pull back and see the forest for the trees."

Sweeney suggested that Shuh and Cornelison had "already won from [her] perspective" as they were so close to their goal weight but joked that they would have "some explaining to do" to their families.

"I was so sad to say goodbye to both of them," she added. "I really like and respect Buddy and Mark. I was so proud to stand on the scale with Buddy when he lost 100lbs and opened up about how meaningful that number meant to him. Buddy's story will always stay with me as one of the most meaningful moments on the show, and I will miss cheering him on at the finale."

Biggest Loser trainer Dolvett Quince has previously revealed that he was "disappointed" with Shuh and Cornelison's decision to leave.

The Biggest Loser airs Tuesdays on NBC.
