Three children will take part in the new episodes of the show, although they will not be eligible for eliminations, will not weigh in on screen, and will work both at home and on the ranch.
Michaels has now told People why Lindsay Bravo, 13, Noah 'Biingo' Gray, 13, and Sanjana 'Sunny' Chandrasekar, 16, are taking part in the season.
"This is not their fault," she said. "This is about an introduction to an active lifestyle and helping them feel better about themselves."
Michaels added: "It is about re-educating them and working on their goals."
The new season of The Biggest Loser, due to premiere on January 6 and January 7 on NBC, will also feature 15 adult contestants battling it out to win $250,000.
